Tom Wescott was born in Jefferson City, MO in 1973 and moved to Oklahoma in 1985. Along the way he discovered a love for music, film, and mystery..both of the fictional and non-fictional variety.
While perusing horror novels at a used book store in 1997 he discovered an abandoned and misplaced non-fiction book tossed crookedly on top of the orderly row of novels. It was a book on Jack the Ripper. He took it home, read it, and wondered if he’d read the ‘final solution’. So he went to the library and checked out a couple more books on the case…then a couple more…then he found this place called Casebook.org on this thing called the internet he was working to figure out.
Over the next 15 years Wescott published as many as 20 essays on the Ripper case in a selection of journals devoted to the topic: Ripperologist, Ripper Notes, Casebook Examiner, and many others. In 2014 he published his first full-length book on the case, offering new information and insights not seen in any other book on the Ripper mystery.
In 2016 his second Ripper-related book – Whitechapel Confidential: Selected Essays on Jack the Ripper – is due for publication.

I hear you favour the vesica piscis as the symbol the ripper was forming. Did you know it was a symbol of Venus? did you know all the body parts taken were related to venus? Did you know all the number of days between deaths relate to venus?

Hi Danny, thanks for posting. I do not think the Vesica Pisces has any relation to the Ripper murders. It was an angle I and others researched and thought about 15 or so years ago, and there are some intriguing aspects to it, but there’s not a shred of evidence that it has anything to do with the Ripper murders.

Interesting blog you’ve got here, Tom. I agree with the conclusion of an article of yours on Casebook.org that Francis Hewitt and his wife bore audible witness to Martha Tabram’s murder, but have to admit that I don’t think I would’ve found it very hard to believe that they didn’t were it not for Mr. Hewitt’s telltale “theory” that a quarrel between Tabram and her killer immediately preceded her death.
Many prostitutes and clients getting down to business within earshot of others exercise discretion so as not to draw attention to themselves, after all – and if Tabram was misled by the killer into thinking that they were in the building for that reason, it may be that she lowered herself to the floor voluntarily in preparation for what she assumed was about to happen, rather than that she was put in such a position by him. Plus it’s possible a) that the Hewitts were asleep at the time and b) that Tabram was unable to scream or cry out during the attack because the culprit placed his hand over her mouth just before he started stabbing her.
